Celebrating Local Creativity: How Made in KC Brings Kansas City Together
A Community Platform for Local Makers
Kansas City has always been a hub for creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. When Made in KC opened in 2015, it gave local artists and makers a much-needed stage to showcase their talent. Starting as a small pop-up featuring just 13 artists, it has grown into a city-wide movement supporting hundreds of local businesses.
From Pop-Up to Established Presence
The journey from a temporary pop-up shop to seven stand-alone locations across the metro is a story of community support and dedication. Each location reflects the city’s vibrant spirit and commitment to fostering small businesses.
Expanding Beyond Art
What began as a showcase for art and design has blossomed into something bigger. Today, you’ll find products ranging from apparel and home décor to food, beverages, and health products. Made in KC isn’t just about art—it’s about celebrating every facet of Kansas City culture.
Supporting Diverse Entrepreneurs
A key milestone came in April 2021 with the launch of The Black Pantry’s first brick-and-mortar location, in collaboration with Made in KC. The Black Pantry focuses on grocery, health, and home goods from Black-owned businesses nationwide, adding depth and diversity to the local shopping scene.
A Destination for Locals and Visitors
With locations spread throughout the metro, shopping here has become more than just a retail experience. It’s a way for residents to directly support their neighbors and for visitors to take home a piece of Kansas City.
Anchored in Midtown Kansas City
The heart of the movement is at 325 E 31st St, Kansas City, MO 64108. This flagship location embodies the brand’s mission to be a gathering place where local culture thrives and creativity shines.
Building the Future of Local Retail
As the number of local artists grows, so too does the responsibility of providing them with a platform. Made in KC has become a symbol of local pride, showing how a city can come together to build a sustainable economy centered around small businesses.
